We started from the Cypress Mountain parking lot just after 8am. The hike begins on a gravel trail that steadily winds uphill. Along the way, we took a short 200m detour to stop at Bowen Lookout, where we were rewarded with beautiful views. We took some photos and then continued on our way.
Our first sighting of snow was near the creek. From this point, the trail changes from gravel and rock to rougher terrain, requiring more attention to footing due to an increase in roots and larger rocks.
Some wooden stairs have been added where erosion had made the trail sketchy in the past — these definitely help make that section easier to navigate.
On the day we hiked, there were plenty of water sources along the trail—unlike in 2019, when we found none.
As you approach the summit, expect sections of trail with standing and running water, mud, and bugs. Just before reaching the top, you’ll be hiking on snow, but hiking boots alone are sufficient for this stretch.
Overall, it’s a lovely trail—not too easy, not too hard—with stunning views from the summit. If you're planning to hike it on a weekend, we suggest starting early to beat the crowds.
